If you find this didn't help, you can copy everything from the folder on the desktop containing original preference files back into the user Preferences folder, which will be populated with all new default items. The desktop will have the default background the Dock will be at the defaults, as will pretty much everything else. The user account will come up as if it were a new account. Immediately restart the Mac after the move is complete. You will likely have to supply the admin password to complete the move. Open the user account Preferences folder and move all items to the new folder on the desktop so the Preferences folder is empty. If removed, you may need to supply that info again when you launch certain apps.īut if you want to give it a try, close any apps that are running. It can be done, though the user Preferences folder also typically holds registration information for various apps.
